CALIFORNIA BOARD OF PSYCHOLOGY
The Board of Psychology of the California Department of Consumer Affairs based in Sacramento oversees the issuance of psychology/psychologist licenses in California.
The Board may seek to deny a license application or suspend or revoke a license based on “unprofessional conduct” as defined in the California Business & Professions Code starting with Section 2960.
If the Board is investigating you for “unprofessional conduct,” which may include something as seemingly innocuous as a misdemeanor conviction in your past, you should consult with an experienced license defense attorney Sacramento like Jonathan Turner right away.
The typical investigation begins with the Board requesting that the licensee or license applicant provide the Board with a written explanation and other documentation regarding the alleged misconduct. Psychology license defense attorney Jonathan Turner can assist you in preparing a written presentation to the Board in hopes of avoiding formal disciplinary actions by the Board such as the denial, suspension or revocation of the psychology license. If the Board opts to seek formal discipline, it will issue the licensee a formal complaint (either an Accusation or Statement of Issues) and thereafter the matter will be set for an administrative hearing.
Licensees have a right to have legal counsel during such administrative hearing proceedings which are formal legal matters involving unique rules of discovery and evidence, subpoenas, and live witness testimony before an administrative law judge (ALJ). Since 1998 administrative law attorney Jonathan Turner has represented hundreds of California professionals, including licensed psychologists, in such license disciplinary matters. Mr. Turner has been extremely successful in salvaging the professional licenses of his clients and hence their careers.
