California LVN License & RN License

sacramento ca administrative law

There are two main types of nursing licenses (RN and LVN) in California and they are governed by separate licensing agencies/boards.

Licensed Vocational Nurses or LVNs obtain licenses from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Registered Nurses or RN Licenses are governed by the Board of Registered Nursing.

Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians

The Board of Vocational Nursing is very strict when it comes to license discipline. A relatively minor allegation or offense, such as driving under the influence (DUI/DWI), may result in the denial of a nursing license or discipline of an existing license. If you are filling out the moral character/background portion of your LVN license application or renewal, and find yourself compelled to check a “yes” box, you should contact administrative law attorney Jonathan Turner. Nursing License Attorney Jonathan Turner can assist you in filling out your LVN License application. If the application is not thereafter accepted by the Board, then an Accusation or Statement of Issues will be generated by the Board. At that point it is vital to consult with professional licensing attorney Jonathan Turner. At that point, your LVN license is in jeopardy and the best legal counsel is a must.

If you are being investigated by the Board of Vocational Nursing or that board seeks to discipline of your license, contact nursing license attorney Jonathan Turner for a free consultation.

California Board of Registered Nursing

The California Board of Registered Nursing is among the strictest and toughest professional licensing agencies in California.

The Board may seek to discipline a nursing license, meaning revoking or suspending it or putting it on probation, for the most minor of offenses such as an old driving under the influence (DUI) conviction. Obviously when a license is revoked or suspended, the licensee’s career is all but ruined. But, even a probationary license can make employment as a nurse extremely difficult due to the onerous terms and conditions placed on the probationer which greatly restrict what the nurse can and cannot do. If you are a registered nurse or applying for a nursing license from the Board of Registered Nursing, and the Board seeks to investigate you for possible discipline, it is imperative you have legal counsel to fight for you.

This includes having an experienced attorney, like Jonathan Turner, representing you in every phase of the investigation from the Board’s initial inquiry, through administrative hearing, and, if necessary, a writ of mandate.
